2024 Grand Marshals – Kim and Bob Manning

Kim and Bob Manning are Cedar Valley natives, having lived and raised their
families here. They were married in 2011. Bob’s children are Drew who lives in
Waterloo, and Lexie resides in Hudson. Kim’s daughter’s, Whitney and Mackenzie,
live in Ankeny and Clive, respectively. They have nine grandchildren all together,
ranging from 6 months to 19 years old.
Kim retired, after serving 24 years, from the City of Cedar Falls where she
managed the Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau and added management of
the Hearst Center for the Arts in 2021. Over the years she served two terms as
President of the Travel Federation of Iowa and term as President of the Eastern
Iowa Tourism Association. Kim was named the Cedar Valley Woman of the Year in
2014. She is now the part-time Route 55 Senior Ministry Director for Orchard Hill
Church.
Bob retired from First Security State Bank in 2015, were he was Senior Vice
President. He retired in May from his part-time job as Executive Director for the
Cedar Valley Home Builder Association. Bob met with contractors, developers and
realtors to help build new neighborhoods and housing. After serving nine years,
he was honored with the organization’s first ever Lifetime Membership Award.
Both Kim and Bob enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. Whether
it’s looking after them, attending musical or athletic events, the Mannings will be
there. Additionally, they enjoy spending time at their cabin at Lake Delhi, where
they both love the water and boating. Bob has a longtime passion for waterskiing,
joining the Waterhawks at the age of 15, he has taught over 120 people to ski.
They, also, love bicycling and spend a lot of time on the trails.
One of Kim’s favorite Sturgis Falls memories is from 2015, when the theme
was “No Place Like Home”. Pete Downs and the crew at Waterloo Tent
photoshopped the faces of each board member onto a poster with characters
from the “Wizard of Oz”. The poster wasn’t distributed publicly, but it was so
clever, and a great example of the creativity, fun, and deep friendships we
cultivated as we worked to produce the annual event.
