Board of Directors

Jay Stoddard, President - Event Oversite
Jay has been President of the Board for 28 years, and a Board member since 1985. His experience at the UNI Dome, Farm Progress Shows, Benefit Concerts for Veterans and with outdoor event management has been invaluable to the Celebration as he spearheads the organizational needs of the weekend with the other Board members. Jay and his wife Debbie are the parents of Ali, 26 and Jason, 39.

Linda Kennedy, Vice President/Treasurer - Overman Park Band Shell Entertainment, Talent Competition, Pool Party, Children’s Choir, and Scholarships
Linda is a past Sturgis Falls Committee member from 1983 -1989, and returned to the Board in 2000. She has always been a tenacious and energetic community volunteer. Linda and her husband, Bob, are the parents of Brandy and Jill, and the grandparents of Lane, Dylan, Audrienne, Gavin, and Jaden. In addition to spending time with family, she also, volunteers her time and energy to her church and Girl Scouts.

Susie Hines - Secretary, Program Guide, Trifold & Social Media
Susie moved to Cedar Falls in 2006 and joined the Board in the Fall of 2007. She has an eclectic professional background in advertising, philanthropy, higher education, ministry, manufacturing, transportation and sales. After 10 relocations in 5 states, she and her family have made Cedar Falls their home.

Kim Manning - Children's Parade
Kim is Manager of the Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau, began her service to the Celebration as an ad hoc member in May of 2000. Kim helps involve and coordinate community groups in the planning and execution of the festival, which is the area's largest and most celebrated annual tourism event. She also works with other annual community events including the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival, College Hill Arts Festival and Cedar Trails Festival. Kim is a life-long resident of the Cedar Valley and proud parent of two daughters, Whitney and Mackenzie.

Chuck Frost - Gateway Beverages & Volunteers
Chuck has been a dedicated volunteer for several years, officially becoming a Board Member in 2006. He served as Director for Memorabilia, Artwork Solicitation and Overman Park Info Booth volunteers until 2013.  Chuck is currently managing groups to ID, sell tickets, and pour beer in the Gateway Entertainment area. He and his wife Pam, enjoy volunteering their time at the Oster Regent Theatre and Special Olympic Events at River Hills School. They have lived in Cedar Falls for over 30 years and raised two children, Laura and Meghan.

Molly Kahler - Kidsway Stage & Activities
Growing up in the Overman Park area, Molly has been in attendance or a part of the Sturgis Falls Celebration for over two decades...Everything from a banner carrier in the Parade to a judge for the Talent Competition. She now lends her enthusiasm to a popular part of the Celebration underneath the Kidsway BigTop. She is serving in her ninth year as a Board member. When asked to join the Board at the end of 2006, it was only natural for her to say “Yes!”. Molly works at Arthur L. Davis Publishing and is married to Shane Kahler. She has three daughters, Meghan, a BIG fan of the Kidsway, Lydia, who joined the fun in 2011, and Lucy, the newest addition to the Kidsway Cast & Crew, arriving in April 2014.

Pete Downs - Tent Setup, A-frames & Signage
Pete Downs is in charge of Tents and A-Frame signage. He believes that serving on the Board of Directors is one way of saying “Thanks Cedar Falls, for being such a great place to live and raise a family. The Sturgis Falls Celebration serves as a platform showing off our community spirit by providing fun entertainment and family oriented events for all to enjoy. So many benefits, food, family friends and fun. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”

Rose Miller - Parade and Dignitary Liaison
Rose will be directing the Dignitary Procession, the Parade and acting as liaison for the Sturgis Falls Celebration Dignitaries.  She has volunteered with Sturgis Falls for several years, joining the Board in 2007.  She managed groups to ID, sell beer tickets, and pour beer in the Gateway Park Entertainment area until 2013. Rose was born, raised, and has worked her whole life in the Cedar Valley. She always looks forward to the weekend celebration.

Jan Benson - Gateway Market
Jan Benson is a lifetime resident of Cedar Falls. She joined the Sturgis Falls Celebration Board of Directors in December 2011. Jan retired from John Deere in 2006 after 30 years.  She has kept herself busy with many volunteer activities.  Jan and her husband, Bryan have two grown children, Angie and Luke. She will coordinate the new commercial vendors area in Gateway Park, the "Gateway Market".

Bett Peterson - Food Vendors
Bett has called Cedar Falls her home since 1980. She began volunteering with Sturgis Falls in 2012 and was asked to join the board in the fall of 2013. She looks forward to celebrating her hometown each summer, and welcomes the opportunity to fully participate in this festival! Bett retired from teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in 2010 and has now found her niche in community volunteerism. She and her husband, Reece, are the parents of one daughter, Hannah.
 

Laura Sweeney - Memorabilia
Laura is a proud native of Cedar Falls. She has been attending Sturgis Falls all of her life and can't imagine summer without the celebration. She has been volunteering for over two decades and is very excited to be joining the Board of Directors as the manager of the Memorabilia tent. When she isn't working on Sturgis Falls plans, she spends her time teaching middle school students at Hoover Middle School in Waterloo. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband Don and their three fur babies.

Jill Thorpe - Arts and Crafts Fair
Jill was born and raised in Cedar Falls, participating in Sturgis Fall her entire life. Sturgis Falls Celebration weekend is very important to her family. She, her husband Chris, and their three boys, Dylan, Gavin, and Jaden participate in all that Sturgis has to offer. Her sons love the Kidsway events, while Jill and her husband enjoy the music at both Gateway and Overman Parks. The responsibilities of being a parent and middle school teacher keep her very busy. In her free time she enjoys time with her family, volunteering in her church and now with Sturgis Falls.
 

Seth Hadenfeldt - Overman Park Band Stage Manager
Seth has lived in the Cedar Valley since 2006, when starting at UNI. He has assisted Sturgis Falls in different ways over the years and became a Board member in 2015. Seth enjoys everything about living here - especially exploring area water ways on his kayak (weather permitting!). After being here for a decade, he decided it was time to be part of his favorite annual event that brings good times & good music to Cedar Falls every year. Seth runs a US Cellular store Next Generation Wireless and also owns College Hill Design - a screen printing company based in the Cedar Valley.
