2001 Sturgis Falls - United States Marine Band Albany

The Marine Band Albany is one of the Twelve Marine Bands worldwide. Formed in 1989, this band has already added its name to the proud Marine tradition. The band travels throughout the United States and abroad fulfilling its mission of providing music for military ceremonies, community relations, recruiting programs, and other official events. The band demonstrates a wide range of versatility in its ability to perform in a variety of forms. Ensembles within the organization include marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, Dixieland band, show band, and brass and woodwind quintets. The Sturgis Falls audience will receive a diverse musical experience from talented members of these ensembles.

To ensure each Marine musician possesses the versatility and competence demanded of them by the Corps, an applicant to the Marine Music Program must complete a challenging screening process that includes auditions, enlistment, recruit training, Marine Combat Training, and formal training at the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. While required to maintain a high degree of musical skills, Marines Band members are first, and foremost, Marines. They are highly skilled, well-disciplined and trained to assume the task common to all members of the Corps, that of a Marine rifleman.

The few good men and women who comprise the Marine Band Albany are the proud bearers of a heritage dating back to the whistling fifes and rolling drums of the first Marine music in 1775. A long-standing tradition of excellence and service to country and Corps is the legacy that they embrace.

We are the few, the proud, the Marines!
