2008 Sturgis Falls Parade Policies

Ø       STURGIS FALLS CELEBRATION THEME

All floats and entries must incorporate the Sturgis Falls Celebration theme into their float or entry in some way.  The 2008 theme is “Hometown Heroes.”  Exceptions include: the City Fire and Police Departments.

Ø       COMMERCIAL ENTRIES

Commercial entries [i.e., a vehicle with a business name on it] will NOT be accepted unless they are pulling a float or entry.

Ø       HAND-OUTS

NOTHING may be distributed during the parade by a parade entry.  If participants do not follow this rule, the entry will be pulled immediately from the parade route and will forfeit any rights to awards.

Ø       HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS

Animal entries must be equipped with the necessary “pooper scooper crew” and/or animal diapers.  Animal entries accept responsibility for cleaning up the staging area and Parade route, if necessary.  Failure to comply with this very reasonable request may result in being pulled from the parade line-up and/or not being allowed to participate in future Sturgis Falls parades.

Ø       POLITICAL ENTRIES

Candidates who are running for office ride as an entry in the main body of the parade and must include the actual candidate.  Elected officials desiring to be in the parade  are placed with the Dignitary Line-up [in front of the main parade body] which goes off prior to the start of the actual parade.

Ø       WATER GUNS

ABSOLUTELY NO water guns, squirt guns, or other water spraying equipment will be allowed due to overwhelming spectator complaints.

Ø       PARADE FLOW

Prior approval is necessary for any planned stops [i.e., main Reviewing Stand, etc.] during the parade procession as we are trying to keep the parade moving.  The maximum stop time that would be allowed [if approved] is 30 seconds, so those groups used to taking more time for short performances will need to rethink their routine.

Ø       FLOAT DIMENSIONS

Float trailer lengths cannot exceed 45 feet in height or 8 feet in width.  Because of this restriction, the Festival assumes no liability for floats that are damaged due to trees/overhanging branches along the route.  Also, floats must be able to make the 3^rd and Main Street corner safely without jumping the curb, regardless of trailer length.
Experienced tractor drivers only!!

Ø       SOUND

No amplified music shall exceed 85 decibels.

Ø       INSURANCE DISCLAIMER

Neither the City of Cedar Falls nor the Sturgis Falls Celebration bears any responsibility for personal injuries or property damage inflicted by or on any participants in the parade.  Parade participants should be properly insured against medical, property damage, or personal liability occurring to themselves or to any other person in connection with parade or parade activities.

The Sturgis Falls Celebration Board of Directors reserves the right at any time to refuse participation in the parade of any entry deemed inappropriate.
